Joshua S. Moskovitz
For the past fifteen years, Josh Moskovitz has been at the forefront of groundbreaking civil rights and catastrophic injury cases throughout New York and New Jersey. In 2023, Josh won a $9.25 million wrongful death verdict for the family of Terry Cooper, which remains the largest civil rights verdict in the Northern District of New York. Josh and Rob Rickner together secured a settlement in 2023 for protesters injured during protests following the murder of George Floyd, which remains the highest per-person settlement in the country for a mass arrest class action lawsuit.
Josh has served as lead counsel in hundreds of federal and state civil rights cases securing systemic reforms and substantial recovery for his clients. He has represented plaintiffs in landmark cases, including the Estate of Eric Garner and the civil suit brought by the Exonerated (Central Park) Five. Josh has also had a highly successful class action practice. As lead class counsel, Josh won class certification and a permanent injunction against the State of New York on behalf of New York State correction officers who faced religious discrimination for their sincere beliefs in wearing beards.
Josh is a summa cum laude graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Josh then spent two years clerking on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit with the Honorable James L. Dennis. Josh later worked at Beldock Levine & Hoffman, LLP before starting his own small firm practice. Josh joined Rickner PLLC as of counsel in 2024.
Josh is admitted in New York; New Jersey; the Southern, Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of New York; the District of New Jersey; and the Second, Third, Fifth, and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeals.
